The Organic Chair is a comfortable small reading chair and was made in 1940 as a contribution to the New York MoMA's "Organic Design in Home Furnishings" competition. Formally speaking it was ahead of its time, but owing to the lack of manufacturing techniques, never went into series production. It was not until after 1950 that it became possible to manufacture larger quantities of organically shaped seat shells and market them. The first were chairs such as Eames' famous Plastic Armchair or Saarinen's Tulip Chair. Designed by Eames and Saarinen 40's and 50's, our replica brings classic mid-century design into the home or office. Vitra makes them today with black stained ash legs. We made our legs with genuine (and expensive) American Walnut finish that looks just so much better, in our opinion. COMPS: Vitra retail $1800+ Dim. 32x25x33 sh17.5
